Ryan Selwood signs for 2013-14
EPL Defenceman signs for Barons
21st June 2013
Solihull add extra defensive strength

The Motor Nation Solihull Barons have scored a major coup in securing the signature of former English Premier League defenceman Ryan Selwood for the 2013-14 season.

Solihull native Selwood has spent the last two seasons with Premier League Telford Tigers, having previously iced for both the Premier League Basingstoke Bison and Elite League Coventry Blaze.

So having played for Solihull as a junior, why return to Hobs Moat after a few years away ?

"I just felt it was right to come back, I played here as a youngster and I still only live 5 minutes from the rink. I know a lot of the Barons and am looking froward to linking up again with both Kieran Papps who I know from my time at Coventry and Josh Bruce who was a Tigers team mate."

The strong support given by the Barons fans was also cited by the 25 year old as something he looks forward to experiencing. "I managed to get along to a few Barons games early last season before the EPL had started and was really impressed by the large support for Solihull."

Asked to describe his game, Selwood indicated a very straightforward approach, "I like to keep it simple. I try to play a strong defensive game and am not afraid to get into the physical, gritty side of things when needed."

"Daz (Barons coach Darren Bellerby) is putting together a strong squad for the new season and I really think we should be challenging for the league or playoffs."

With the Barons squad gradually building, stay tuned for more signing news over the next few weeks.....and news of a season opening challenge game !
